Kevin Youkilis was said to be seeking a deal which would allow him to play for a team near his home in California. Not quite the case, as the 34-year-old has signed a deal to play in Japan reports Nikkan Sports.
A former All-Star, Youkilis will play for the Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2014 after appearing in just 28 games for the New York Yankees last season. Plagued with injuries Youkilis had just a .219/.305/.343 line with two homers.
It has been a while since Youkilis was an everyday player. He has not topped 120 games played since 2009.
Youkilis either considers playing in Japan his best financial option or is hoping to rebuild his value for a return stateside in a year.
