The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed pitcher Charlie Morton to a three-year extension.

Morton, 30, will earn $21 million over the course of the contract which covers his final year of salary arbitration and first two years of free agency.

While Morton has been beset with injuries the last two season the Pirates are banking on his upside. In 20 starts with them last season Morton registered a 3.26 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He should remain a nice piece in the middle of their rotation for the next few seasons if healthy.
