The Chicago Cubs will announce Rick Renteria as their manager on Thursday.
Renteria has close ties to the Cubs and general manager Jed Hoyer as the two rocked together in San Diego. He will take over a Cubs team which was 127-197 over the last two seasons under Dale Sveum. The Cubs let Sveum go at the end of the season.

Renteria was the Padres the last six seasons including serving as the bench coach for the last two. The Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers also had interviewed Renteria for their managerial vacancies.
The Cubs also had interest in A.J. Hinch and Brad Ausmus before he accepted the same role with the Tigers.
