In one of the most obvious decisions of the winter, the Boston Red Sox declined the option of left handed reliever Matt Thronton.
Acquired in a trade with the Chicago White Sox, Thornton compiled a 3.74 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 30/15 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings of work.
Rather than collecting $6 million for the 2014 season, the Red Sox will pay Thornton a $1 million buyout.
