The Atlanta Braves optioned Evan Gattis to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.
Gattis, 27, began the season on a hot streak but has cooled in the second half. Faced with an inability to get Gattis regular at-bats the Braves have sent him to Gwinnett.
The current plan is for Gattis to return after three games at Gwinnett.
Gattis was hitting only .139 (5 for 36) in August, dropping his overall average to .238. He has 15 homers and leads all rookies with 47 RBIs.
Thus far the Braves have not announced who will take his roster spot.
