Dan Uggla opted to undergo LASIK surgery with the Braves firmly in control of the NL East. The Braves called up Tyler Pastornicky to occupy second base during Uggla’s absence but after a collision on Wednesdays his status is up in the air.

Pastornicky collided with outfielder Jason Heyward on a pop fly with one out in the third inning of the Braves win over Philadelphia.

Coaches and players both say they heard Heyward calling for the ball while Pastornicky was trying to get in position to field it.

“I called it early,” Heyward said. “I was saying, ‘Hey, I got it, you guys take it easy, you don’t have to stretch for it,’ but he kept going.”

The result was a collision which left Pastronicky on the ground. He was able to finish the inning.

With Pastronicky out, the Braves shifted Paul Janish to second base and put Andelton Simmons, who was given the day off, on the field.
