The Detroit Tigers have added an arm to their bullpen. On Monday the Tigers reached a deal with the Houston Astros for right hander Jose Veras.
Veras , 32, has been one of few bright spots for the Astros this season compiling a 2.93 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 44/14 K/BB ratio in 43 innings.
The Tigers plan to use him in a setup role ahead of Joaquin Benoit.
Veras has a $3.25 million team option for 2014.
In exchange for Veras the Astros acquired Danry Vasquez and a player to be named later.
Vasquez, 19, had been playing at Low-A West Michigan and had a.281/.333/.390 line with five homers and nine steals through 96 games
