It may have been late July but the series between NL division leaders St. Louis and Atlanta has all the feel of post season baseball.

Both teams had good pitching performances, holding each other hit-less though the seventh with runners in scoring position.

Cardinals pitcher Joe Kelly pitched into the seventh before parting ways after a fly-ball gaffe by left fielder Matt Holliday. Seth Maness would wiggle out of the inning to keep the game scoreless.

Meanwhile Braves starter Julio Teheran pitched seven scoreless before handing the ball over to the Braves bullpen.

In the eight the Braves again got a runner into scoring position and eventually loaded the bases with two outs. It was then that Andrelton Simmons laced a double off of Trevor Rosenthal. Simmons had been hitting .068 with runners in scoring position prior to the go-ahead double.

Craig Kimbrel came into the game for the ninth striking out Matt Carpenter and forcing Carlos Beltran to ground out before getting Matt Holliday  for his 30th save of the season.
