The San Francisco Giants expect to be without reliever Jeremy Affeldt for four to six weeks.
Affeldt, 34, will head to the disabled list with a sore left groin. The left hander had been pitching with soreness for weeks and was forced to leave Saturday’s game after re-aggravating it.
The Giants will be left with Javier Lopez and Jose Mijares as left handed options in their bullpen.
In 38 games this season Affeldt holds a 3.51 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. The Giants are 4.5 games out in the NL West and are debating whether to buy or sell at the trade deadline.
