The New York Yankees inquired about San Diego Padres third basemen Chase Headley. While the Yankees could be welcoming Alex Rodriguez back next week that has not stopped the team from seeking upgrades.

Headley, 29, is making $8.575 million this season and will be eligible for arbitration for the final time this winter.

The Yankees were told that Headley is “about as close as possible to an untouchable player without actually being one” according to Jon Heyman.

Headley is hitting a mere .229/.330/.359 this season with 7 home runs. Trading Headley now would be selling low on a player that hit 31 home runs last season with a .289/.376/.498 line.

If nothing else the inquiring about Headley shows that the Yankees have concerns about Rodriguez and the rest of their lineup going forward.
