Alex Rodriguez could be facing a 100-game suspension. The former All-Star has hired David Cornwell to his legal team according to USA Today.
Cornwell helped overturn the suspension of Ryan Braun last year after the Brewers outfielder was suspended for a positive drug test.
Rodriguez is gearing up for a legal battle after Anthony Bosch, head of the now-closed Biogenesis of America anti-aging clinic, agreed this week to cooperate with MLB’s drug investigation.
“Myself and others are being mentioned in a media report before the process is even concluded,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “I would hope this thing would follow the guidelines of our Basic Agreement. I will monitor the situation and comment when appropriate.”
“As I have said previously, I am working out every day to get back on the field and help the Yankees win a championship. I am down here doing my job and working hard and will continue to do so until I’m back playing.”
Rodriguez has not appeared in a game this year as he recovers from hip surgery. Last season Rodriguez hit just .272 with 18 home runs in 122 games.
