Matthew Fortese, 25 is a lifelong Yankees fan from Hagerstown, MD. When he attended Friday Orioles/Yankees game  meeting a girl for their second date at Camden Yards he was not expecting the game to end by being admitted into the hospital with severe head trauma and a skull fracture.

Fortese began to be heckled by two men sitting a few rows behind him regarding the Yankee’s hat he was wearing, the men threw beer at his face, and when the argument escalated, one of the men punched Fortese in the side of the head, according to the Baltimore Sun. The blow made Fortese fall over the railing and hit his head on the pavement below.

Fortese had to be revived by an off-duty officer at the scene. The off-duty officer, Nathan Steelman just happened to be an old friend.

“You just heard it,” Steelman told the Baltimore Sun Friday of the commotion. “I rushed over, and I realized it was Matt. He wasn’t breathing. He was unconscious. Blood was coming from his nose.”

Fortese was listed in serious condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center Saturday. Police said, two men — Gregory Fleischman, 22, of Jarrettsville, and Michael Bell, 21, of Annapolis — were charged in the attack Friday and released on a $50,000 bond.
