The Kansas City Royals rallied in the ninth inning and then waited out a four-plus hour rain delay to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals. Thursday nights game ended Monday morning after rain arrived.

Michael Wacha left his major league debut in line for a win. The young Cardinals pitcher allowed a mere run and two hits in seven innings of work while striking out none.

All of Wacha’s work went for naught as the Royals rallied in the ninth to spoil the night for the Cardinals. Jeff Francoeur hit a solo home run before Eric Hosmer plated two with a double to give the Royals a 4-2 lead.

The rains would then come and force a delay of 4 1/2 hours. St. Louis got out of a bases loaded jam but then went down in order in the bottom of the inning.

The game ended just past 3:00 am CT.
