The injuries to the rotation of the St. Louis Cardinals continued on Saturday night. On Sunday the team placed left hander John Gast on the 15-day disabled list with a sore left shoulder.

Gast lasted only one inning in his start against the Dodgers due to tightness in the shoulder.

It is currently unclear the extent of the injury but is not good news for a Cardinals team which began the season without Chris Carpenter and later loss Jaime Garcia to Tommy John surgery. The Cardinals are also without Jake Westbrook who will visit Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his elbow.

Michael Wacha has been scratched from his Sunday start at Triple-A Memphis. In the meantime the Cardinals have promoted Michael Blazek from Double-A Springfield to help fill in for a bullpen which had to pitch a lot of innings Saturday night.

In three starts on the season Gast was 2-0 with a 5.11 ERA.
