The Washington Nationals placed RHP Ryan Mattheus on the 15-day DL retroactive to May 20. Mattheus punched his locker in frustration after Sunday’s game against the San Diego Padres where he gave up five runs on four hits and two walks over a single inning.
In 14 appearances Mattheus had a 4.96 ERA.
No word on how long Mattheus will be out. The Nationals are calling up Yunesky Maya and Fernando Abad to help in the bullpen.
