The reports about Carlos Zambrano signing a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies were true, they just were a little early. On Wednesday the team announced that it had signed the 31-year-old Zambrano to a minor league deal.

Carlos Zambrano will begin his return to the majors by reporting to Clearwater, FL for extended spring training. Known for his fiery temper as much as his prowess on the mound the Phillies are hoping he has something left in the tank.

Zambrano gained zero interest in free agency after going 7-10 with a 4.49 ERA for the Miami Marlins last season. In 12 big league seasons Zambrano holds a 132-91 record and a 3.66 ERA.
