Roy Halladay allowed nine runs in 2 1/3 innings in a 14-2 loss to the Miami Marlins on Sunday. After the game Halladay told reporters that he had been experiencing discomfort in his right shoulder.

Halladay will fly to Los Angeles to see orthopedist Lewis Yocum.

The discomfort for Halladay started three starts ago, since that time he has allowed 17 earned runs while pitching a total of six innings.

“It’s not something that I had before,” Halladay said. “It’s something new this year. I felt good all spring, felt good all year. Just got up after that start against Pittsburgh and had soreness in there and just wasn’t able to get ready.”

Halladay struggled last season finishing with a 4.49 ERA while spending time on the disabled list with a strained lat muscle. This season he is 2-4 with an 8.65 ERA.
