Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward is hoping to return to the team before the end of May. On Satuday Heyward will take some swings with a bat and could add some catching and throwing.

Currently Heyward has been walking on a treadmill and riding a stationary bike as he works his way back from an appendectomy.

“Everybody is telling me to take my time,” Heyward told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “You’ll know (when you’re ready), but it’s still not something to rush. You can end up having a hernia or oblique strain.”

Prior to going on the disabled list, Heyward had a .121/.261/.259 line in 17 games.

The Braves are also expected to welcome back catcher Brian McCann soon which could send Evan Gattis to the outfield for the time being. Currently Jordan Schafer has assumed one of the Braves outfield spots.
