Pirates designate Jonathan Sanchez for assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated Jonathan Sanchez for assignment. On Monday he allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

During Sanchez’s five appearances for the Pirates this year he compiled a 11.85 ERA and a 15/8 K/BB ratio. Sanchez was recently suspended for six games after throwing at Cardinals first basemen Allen Craig.

There is little reason to believe that Sanchez will attract much interest on waivers. Sanchez had signed a one year deal with the Pirates worth $1.38 million over the winter.
