Scott Kazmir to miss first start with Indians

Scott Kazmir

The Cleveland Indians awarded Scott Kazmir with a rotation spot after a strong spring. However the 29 year old left hander will not be able to take the mound in his first scheduled start on Saturday.

Kazmir suffered an abdominal strain on Monday and the Indians are considering recalling Trevor Bauer to make the start against Tampa Bay.

During spring training Kazmir was in a competition with Carlos Carrasco and Daisuke Matsuzaka for the final rotation spot. In Kazmir’s final spring outing he was pounded for five runs and 13 hits in five innings of work.

Kazmir made one start in 2011 and pitched in the Independent League last season.

The Indians acquired Bauer from Arizona in a three team deal that also included Cincinnati. Bauer made four starts with the Diamondbacks in 2012 finishing with a 6.06 ERA and a 1.65 ERA.
