Rangers near deal with shortstop Elvis Andrus

The Texas Rangers and shortstop Elvis Andrus are close to a contract extension. A new deal could be for eight years and may become official once the Rangers return to Arlington on Thursday.

Andrus, 24, is currently in the second year of a three-year deal worth $14.4 million.

A new deal for Andrus would solidify the Rangers up the middle as Ian Kinsler is signed though 2017 with an option for 2018. Top ranked prospect Jurickson Profar is currently playing at Triple-A Round Rock.
