Elvis Andrus will not play in Thursday’s game against Cleveland because a new tattoo is causing sensitivity in his left biceps.
The news was first broken by Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News. Fraley called the tattoo elaborate but never posted a photo of it. The tattoo is said to have a likeness of his late father.
UPDATE: Fortunately Andrus has posted a photo of the tattoo on twitter.
With Andrus set to leave the Rangers on Saturday in preparation for the World Baseball Classic, the Rangers probably would have preferred that their 24-year-old shortstop had waited to get the tattoo. On the flip side they should be glad he did not choose to get the tattoo in the middle of the season.
Andrus will play on Team Venezuela in the WBC. Should the team reach the finals he would be out of Rangers camp until March 20.
