If the New York Mets are going to have any chance in the NL East this season they will need a look of good luck. Count the wife of Mets pitcher Jon Niese in the pile of fans with lucky charms.
“I’m the superstitious one,” said Leah in a recent profile by The New York Post. “I have lucky underwear — they’re Mets underwear.”
The couple got married in January after more then three years of dating.
Leah went on to talk about her first encounter with her future husband.
“He was in a cast from his ankle up to his waist,” Leah recalled. “We just started talking, and he just seemed like a down-to-earth and really sweet guy. We just took it from there.”
Leah says she tries to attend every game that her husband pitches. Last season he finished the year with a 13-9 record and a 3.40 ERA.
The first game of the MLB regular season occurs on Sunday night. The Mets will play their first game on Monday at 1:10 pm EST with Niese on the mound.
