Vernon Wells could be joining Yankees

Vernon Wells is grossly overpaid for being a fourth outfielder. Wells signed a massive contract with the Los Angeles Angels but has hit just .222 with 33 home runs over the last two seasons. There is $42 million left on the now 34 year old’s contract.

A trade is being discussed between the Angels and Yankees which could send the outfielder to New York to start the season. Wells would take the spot of the injured Curtis Granderson in left field.

Jeff Passan notes that Wells will accept the deal and it should be completed relatively soon.

The production from Granderson to Wells is a significant drop off but the Yankees are desperate for options to fill out their roster.

A quick look suggests there is not much holding this up from being completed as the Angels will need to pick up a significant amount of Wells’ remaining contract.
