St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter says he may never take the mound again.
“I do (want to keep playing),” Carpenter said. “I don’t think I can.”
Carpenter, 38, was placed on the 60-day disabled list last month after he experienced nerve irritation in his shoulder. The Cardinals have already ruled the former Cy Young Award winner out for the entire 2013 season.
The 38-year-old right-hander was placed on the 60-day disabled list in February with nerve irritation in his shoulder and has already been ruled out for the entire 2013 season.
Carpenter has yet to announce his formal retirement and that is largely due to the $12.5 million that is left on his contract.
If this is the end of Carpenter he ends his 15 year career with a 144-94 record and a 3.76 ERA.
