Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy is right on schedule according to manager Freddi Gonzalez. Beachy underwent Tommy John surgery last season but has pitched great thus far as he works his way back to the major leagues.
“He’s on target,” Gonzalez said. “He’s thrown some bullpens, he’s played some long catch and he hasn’t had any setbacks.”
The absence of Beachy has opened the door for Julio Teheran to claim the Braves fifth rotation spot. On Sunday he had another strong outing in his fifth start. Teheran pitched six innings allowing one run and lowering his spring ERA to 1.35. In 20 innings of work he has struck out 25 batters.
