Yankees sign Kevin Youkilis to one year deal

Kevin Youkilis has joined the ‘evil empire.’

The one time member of the Boston Red Sox has signed a one-year deal with the New York Yankees worth $12 million. Last season Youkilis split time between Boston and the Chicago White Sox.

Youkilis batted .235/.336/.409 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI in 122 games in 2012.

The Cleveland Indians had a two-year deal on the table which was believed to have been worth $18 million. That deal would have paid him more guaranteed money but would have placed him on a team which is not expected to compete.

In New York, Youkilis will take the place of Alex Rodriguez until he returns from hip surgery. Rodriguez is expected to undergo surgery in mid-January but has not given a specific date yet.
