Giants win in extra innings to force Game 4

The Cincinnati Reds hoped to be on their way to the National League Championship Series.It would have marked the first time the Reds have been in the NLCS since 1995. Instead the San Fransisco Giants forced a Game 4 with a though fought 2-1 win in ten innings.

Scott Rolen made a crucial error of the game in the top of the tenth it allowed Busty Posey to come around to score the go ahead run. Giants closer Sergio Ramos pitched a perfect bottom half of the inning to close out the game.

Homer Bailey started game three for the Reds. He pitched seven innings allowing just a lone hit and one earned run. At one point during the game Bailey struck out six Giant batters in a row.

The Reds scored the first run of the game when Jay Bruce singled in Zack Cozart in the bottom of the first.

The pitching of  Giant starter Ryan Vogelsong and reliever Jeremy Affeldt kept the Reds from adding any additional runs though the first seven. When the Giants scored in the third inning when Bailey hit Gregor Blanco and then walked  Brandon Crawford. A bunt and fly allowed Blanco to score.
