Carl Edwards wins first race of year at Watkins Glen

Carl Edward’s; driver of the No.60 Subway Ford Mustang for Roush Fenway Racing had not competed in a NASCAR Nationwide Race (NNS) this season until the race at Watkin’s Glen.

(Below is a video of Edward’s winning the race, complete with the back flip we have waited so long to see!)

Edward’s told reporters he had missed racing in the NNS Series, “I’ve missed it a little more than I thought I would. It was nice to go over to the garage and see a lot of guys that I haven’t seen for a while,” he said. “It should be a lot of fun. I just talked to  Dale Jarrett a little bit. I get to be the in-race reporter, so that will be neat to be part of the broadcast; but overall, I just miss racing with those guys on Saturdays.”

The extra practice Edward’s was getting for the Sprint Cup race Sunday was well worth it, but little did he know that he would come out with the win.

Edward’s took the lead on the restart with 10 to go and edged out Brad Keselowski for his first win of the 2012 NASCAR season.

Keselowski who lead the most laps and started on the pole finished second, followed by Sam Hornish Jr in third, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in fourth and Ron Fellows closed out the top five finishing in fifth for the Zippo 200 at the Glen.

Kyle Busch, who started from the back of the field because his team made changes to his No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota, managed to finish sixth despite shifter and throttle problems.

Danica Patrick was the victim of bad luck again today as at the very beginning of the race right on lap 1, she ran right into Ryan Truex who went through the grass. (Video of Patrick wrecking here) Patrick finished last in the 43rd position.
