In the wake of events that happened during last weeks Nationwide Series event, Angela Cope is challenging fans to “put your money where your mouth is.”
The Cope twins, nieces of Daytona 500 winner Derrick Cope, have received sharp criticism since the end of the F.W. Webb 200 at New Hampshire. In the closing laps Amber slowed down race leader Kevin Harvick allowing Brad Keselowski to take the win.
Harvick nudged Cope as the two entered pit lane following the race and then let his frustrations be known. “It’s somebody who shouldn’t be on the racetrack. That has no clue what they are doing in a race car. She wants to be Danica Patrick but she can’t hold her helmet… I don’t even know who it is to tell you the truth.”
Comments went back and forth and now Angela is calling on fans of NASCAR, including ones of Harvick, to “PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS!”
Angela has created a campaign on Go Fund Me which is hoping to raise $100,000 in order to “upgrade motors, tires, and perhaps a test session leading into the race.” (view campaign here)
Thus far after only two hours of being live the campaign has raised $325. Angela is to drive in the October race at Charlotte.
“If I don’t prove to the world that I belong on that track at Charlotte Speedway on October 12, 2012, in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, then you will never see me back.” Cope has listed on the website.
Even in the event that the goal of $100,000 is not reached Cope will use the funds to purchase better equipment. In addition fans who donate will have their name placed on the car.
Cope’s NASCAR future will be decided following the race.
¨After the race on October 12, 2012 a third party Poll/Survey company will put a fan poll in place to tally votes if I should stay in NASCAR or leave NASCAR based on my performance.
You can view campaign page here.
Thus far no comment has been made by Kevin or DeLana Harvick.
