Front Row Motorsports will field a car for David Ragan in 2012. The organization has come to an agreement with the Georgia native who scored his first career victory at Daytona in July.
Ragan had previously driven for Roush Fenway Racing but lost his ride in the #6 car when primary sponsor UPS opted to step back from full time sponsoring in 2012. Team owner Jack Roush had hoped to find a way to run the car but was unable and eventually granted Ragan his release. Ragan was rumored to be a possibility to drive the #22 car at Penske Racing but that seat ultimately went to AJ Allmendinger. Later he was considered for the seat at Richard Petty Motorsports vacated by Allmendinger but the team opted to go with Aric Almirola instead.
Despite the win at Daytona, Ragan finished 23rd in the final driver standings and recorded a total of 4 top-5 finishes and 8 top-10’s. He recorded poles at Texas and Indianapolis.
Following the season Roush expressed disappointment with how things turned out while Ragan was a part of his team. Rickey Stenhouse who won the Nationwide Series title is expected to run the #6 car part time in 2012.
The best finish Ragan has had in the standings is a 13th place finish in 2008. Things do not figure to get much better this year as Front Row Motorsports recorded just one top-5 finish last season, that being a third place finish by David Gilliland in the Daytona 500.
The two full time cars ran by Front Row Motorsports finished 31st (#34) and 35th (#38) in the final driver standings last season. The team also ran car #37 for part of the season before it was acquired by Larry Gunselman. The team would run the #55 car afterwards but Michael Waltrip Racing will run that number in 2012.
Right now it is unclear how many cars the team will field and what their driver lineup will be. The team said earlier this off season that they were interested in keeping Gilliland and Travis Kvapil with the team. Sponsorship is also a question. Last year Long John Silvers and Taco Bell, which Jenkins owns franchises of, were represented in the teams cars. They will again run Ford Fusions.
