The Los Angeles Angels have signed relief pitcher Joe Smith to a three-year deal.
Smith, 29, is expected to serve in a set-up role to closer Ernesto Frieri. Should Frieri struggle the right handed Smith would appear to be the first option to take over ninth inning duties.
The ever durable Smith has appeared in 70 plus games in each of the last three seasons. He finished the 2013 season with a 2.29 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and collected the first three saves of his career.
