The Houston Astros will take a gamble on Eric Thames as they claimed the 26-year-old outfielder off waivers from Baltimore.
Thames never appeared in a big league game for the Orioles after being acquired in a trade with the Seattle Mariners. In 36 games for Triple-A the outfielder hit .252/.315/.356 with three homers and 13 RBI.
In 181 career games Thames has a .250/.296/.431 line. He has 21 big league home runs and is a low risk gamble for the Astros.
Thames is a former seventh round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays from the 2008 draft.
