Mark Appel made his pro debut on Friday pitching two innings of work for Class-A Tri City. In the outing Appel allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits.
Appel’s performance came with mixed results. The 21-year-old right hander struck out one and did not issue a walk.

The Astros drafted Appel with the first overall pick in this years draft. Appel was given a $6.35 million bonus after being drafted. He threw 106 1/3 innings this year with Stanford.
Appel is expected to reach Double-A at some point this year.
