Derek Lowe has cleared waivers and can now either accept a assignment to Triple-A Round Rock or become a free agent.
The 39-year-old Lowe had been serving as a middle reliever for the Rangers before being designated for assignment on Monday. Lowe had a 9.00 ERA in 13 innings of work and allowed two runs in 2/3 innings worth of work in his final appearance.
Neal Cotts was recently called up by the Rangers to serve in a role in the bullpen. Cotts threw a perfect inning striking out one in his first outing on Tuesday.
