The Houston Astros recently signed Ronny Cedeno and the Houston Chronicle reported on Sunday that he will be the teams shortstop to open the season.

Cedeno spent almost all of spring training with the St. Louis Cardinals attempting to win the starting gig there when Rafael Furcal became sidelined. Pete Kozma earned the starting spot with the Cardinals while Cedeno was released.

The team is also looking to trade utility player Tyler Greene who had been viewed as an option at short before the Cedeno signing. Greene had a rough spring committing four errors and compiling a .167 average.

J.D. Martin was optioned to Triple-A in a related move.
