Josh Hamilton has reached a deal which will keep him in the American League West, though the deal is not with the Texas Rangers. Hamilton has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels had been quiet during the off-season though they recently added Joe Blanton to the back end of their rotation. Hamilton’s deal with the Angels is for five years and $125 million according to Jon Morosi.
As a member of the Texas Rangers, Hamilton batted .285/.354/.577 with 43 home runs and 128 RBI in 148 games. Health is a bit of a concern going forward with Hamilton but the overall talent and ability may have been too much for the Angels to pass up.
The Rangers were expected to be given every opportunity to match any offer given to Hamilton. In recent days reports suggested that the club had intensified their efforts to re-sign Hamilton after losing out on Zack Greinke.
Texas also watched catcher Mike Napoli agree to a deal with Boston, though that deal has not been announced. The Rangers also opted to trade Michael Young to Philadelphia last weekend.
