Alex Rodriguez will undergo surgery in mid-January for his hip. The surgery will keep him out of action for 4-6 months during the 2013 season.
This is not exactly news as its been known that Rodriguez would undergo a procedure. The Yankees said earlier this month that Rodriguez needs surgery to correct a torn labrum and other problems with his left hip.
To fill third base the Yankees are looking at options. Currently they are said to have a one-year deal worth $12 million out to Kevin Youkilis. Its also been reported that the Yankees have checked in on Jack Hannahan a career .234/.316/.355 hitter. One has to wonder if the Yankees would be better off scouring the waiver wire during spring training then signing Hannahan.
Eric Chavez who filled in for Rodriguez last season singed a one-year deal worth $3 million to play for Arizona.
