In a commanding performance at Pocono Raceway, Layne Riggs secured his first win of the season, taking the checkered flag with a margin of 3.703 seconds over Tanner Gray. The victory is not only a career-defining moment for Riggs, but it also marks Ford’s first triumph at the Tricky Triangle since Ryan Blaney’s 2013 win.
Starting from the pole in the No. 34 Ford, Riggs showcased pace and patience throughout the 80-lap event. Despite a chaotic and caution-filled race that featured seven lead changes among four different drivers, Riggs kept his composure. He led 10 laps in total, recorded the race’s fastest lap at 165.63 mph, and spent 57 laps inside the top five.
Early Chaos and Mid-Race Surges
The race began with Riggs and Kaden Honeycutt on the front row, but it was Corey Heim who surged ahead early, leading the first five laps and showing dominant speed. Heim, who started third in the No. 11 Toyota, was a force throughout the first half, leading 26 of the first 35 laps and clinching his twelfth stage win of the season—setting a new record for the most stage victories in a single year.
However, the drama intensified midway through the race. Multiple incidents and strategic pit stops shuffled the order. A pivotal caution came on Lap 48 when Tyler Ankrum, Ben Rhodes, and Grant Enfinger triggered a multi-truck collision attempting a risky three-wide maneuver. The wreck collected several others and brought out the yellow, changing the dynamics for the final stretch.
Lead Changes and Penalties
On the Lap 62 restart, Heim and Riggs went side-by-side, but it was Carson Hocevar who jumped to the lead entering Turn 1—only to be black-flagged for a restart violation. That miscue handed the lead back to Riggs, who never looked back. Despite pressure from Gray and Honeycutt, Riggs steadily extended his advantage, turning a 1.124-second lead into a near four-second gap by the finish.
Behind Riggs, Tanner Gray put together a solid performance in the No. 15 Toyota, finishing second. Kaden Honeycutt rounded out the podium in the No. 45 Chevrolet, followed by other notable names who weathered the chaos, including Corey Heim, who dealt with a flat right rear tire in the final stages, and Matt Crafton, who suffered a flat of his own earlier in the race while running in 17th.
A Historic Win for Ford
Layne Riggs’ win not only highlights his growing talent but also ends a decade-long dry spell for Ford at Pocono. The manufacturer had not celebrated in Victory Lane at this venue since Ryan Blaney’s 2013 success. Riggs’ consistency, coupled with a perfectly timed strategy and clean execution in the final 15 laps, sealed the long-awaited victory.
With this win, Riggs adds his name to the growing list of potential playoff contenders, while Corey Heim continues to dominate the season statistically, climbing into 10th place on the Truck Series all-time laps led list and joining the elite club of drivers who have led laps in the first 14 races of the season.
The Pocono race delivered everything fans could hope for—strategy, speed, drama, and a breakout win. And for Layne Riggs and Ford, it was a moment worth the wait.
