Kyle Kirkwood was the fastest driver in Friday’s opening practice session at Road America ahead of the XPEL Grand Prix.
The NTT IndyCar Series hit the 14-turn 4.048-mile track at 4:35 for a 75 minute session.
Kirkwood’s time of 1:44.988 was followed by Devlin DeFrancesco, Will Power, Jose Newgarden and Christian Lundgaard.
Twenty minutes into the session, before everyone had gotten on track, DeFrancesco found himself taking a trip off course but he would keep his car going. Colton Herta, Santino Ferrucci and Alexander Rossi would all find their way off the track. Scott McLaughlin was sixth fastest as Team Penske hopes to rebound from a poor performance at World Wilde Technology Raceway at a track where they swept the podium last season.
Drivers will have a second practice session and qualifying on Saturday with a warm-up on Sunday. Coverage of the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America will air on FOX at 1:30 pm ET.
