Robert Shwartzman has never raced on an oval before. Now the Israeli becomes the first rookie to earn the pole for the Indianapolis 500 in 43 years.
Shwartzman’s average speed of 232.790 bested Takuma Sato. They will be joined on the front row by Pato O’Ward.
Scott Dixon, Felix Rosenqvist and Alex Palou will make up the second row.
Prior to fast-six qualifying the last row of the field was set with Marco Andretti, Marcus Armstrong and Rinus VeeKay. Missing the race is Jacob Abel.
