Alex Palou’s dominance of the NTT IndyCar Series continued on Saturday winning the Sonsio Grand Prix by more than five seconds.
Before the start of the race two drivers had issues as Kyffin Simson could get find his way on the track while Josef Newgarden dealt with radio issues forcing him to the rear of the field.
When the race finally started it was points leader Palou out front but Graham Rahal would snatch the lead in turn one. After a lap Colton Herta found his way into the pits with a front wing issue as cars at the rear of the field began to make contact with one another. As he was completing lap seven Marcus Ericsson went around after contact with David Malukas and would make a pit stop.
By lap 34, Rahal would find himself struggling with lapped traffic which erased the gap he had created to Palou. On lap 58 Palou would retake the lead form Rahal and begin to pull away quickly.
The win was Palou’s third in the Indianapolis Grand Prix and marks his third win in the last four races at the configuration. A caution would come out for a car off the track setting up a restart on lap 73.
For Palou the win is his fourth of the season, in five races run, and the 15th of his career. He extends his point lead as he seeks his third straight NTT IndyCar Series championship and fourth overall.
