Kaulig Racing and driver Daniel Dye are teaming up this week to pay tribute to the late Adam Petty during Darlington Raceway’s throwback weekend. Dye’s No. 10 Helm Chevrolet will proudly showcase a paint scheme reminiscent of Petty’s iconic No. 45 Spree Chevrolet from 1999, offering a heartfelt homage to the racing legend.
Adam Petty tragically lost his life in 2000, but in his memory, the Petty family established Victory Junction Gang Camp, Inc., a NASCAR-themed camp dedicated to children facing serious illnesses and conditions. Located in Randleman, North Carolina, Victory Junction provides these children a safe, supportive environment where they can just be kids, while creating unforgettable experiences. The camp operates entirely on donations and remains free for the children who attend.
Kyle Petty, Adam’s father and the son of NASCAR legend Richard Petty, expressed his gratitude for the tribute. “I’m really excited that Daniel is running Adam’s paint scheme at Darlington, because this is personal,” Kyle said. “Daniel’s dad, Randy, and I have been friends for most of my life. Just as Randy watched Adam come along and chase his dreams, I’ve been front row to watch Daniel chase his. With Daniel driving Adam’s paint scheme, those two dreams come together.”
As part of the tribute, Dye will donate a portion of his earnings from the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200 to Victory Junction. This donation will help ensure that the camp continues to provide life-changing experiences for children, free of charge.
“The support I’ve received from the Petty family has played such a pivotal role in my racing career,” said Dye. “In 2023, I honored Richard Petty with a throwback scheme, and last year, I paid tribute to Kyle Petty, one of my childhood heroes. Honoring Adam right as we approach the 25th anniversary of his passing is incredibly special to me. Although I never met Adam, his legacy has been a tremendous influence on me and so many others.”
The Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway is set to take place on Saturday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the action live on the CW, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90.
