JR Motorsports making Cup debut with Justin Allgaier

JR Motorsports (JRM), a dominant force in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, is taking a historic leap into the NASCAR Cup Series at the 2025 DAYTONA 500. In a star-studded announcement, NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. and 10-time Grammy-winning artist Chris Stapleton revealed they have joined forces to bring JRM’s inaugural Cup Series entry to life. The No. 40 Traveller Whiskey Chevrolet, driven by reigning Xfinity Series Champion Justin Allgaier, will compete in “The Great American Race.”

The Perfect Storm: Racing, Music, and Whisky

Earnhardt Jr., a two-time DAYTONA 500 winner, expressed excitement about JRM’s move into the Cup Series. “We’ve been waiting for the right moment,” he said. “With Justin winning the Xfinity Series championship and Chris Stapleton’s undeniable star power, the planets aligned for this perfect opportunity to enter this year’s DAYTONA 500.”

The No. 40 Chevrolet boasts sponsorship from Traveller Whiskey, an award-winning brand crafted at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Launched in January 2024, Traveller has quickly earned accolades, including 15 awards for its distinctive blend. Chris Stapleton, a co-creator of the whiskey, emphasized the synergy between the brand and JRM’s racing legacy. “Traveller Whiskey joining JR Motorsports for their inaugural entry into the Cup Series feels like a very natural partnership,” Stapleton said. “I’m honored to be part of this historic moment.”

Behind the Wheel: Justin Allgaier

Justin Allgaier, one of JRM’s most decorated drivers, will pilot the No. 40 Chevrolet. Allgaier, who has captured multiple Xfinity Series championships and earned the title of Most Popular Driver five times, brings both experience and determination to this landmark race. “This is an incredible honor to be driving JR Motorsports’ inaugural entry into the Cup Series,” said Allgaier. “To do it with Dale, Kelley, Chris Stapleton, and Traveller Whiskey makes this even more special.”

A Legacy of Excellence

JR Motorsports’ entry into the DAYTONA 500 marks a new chapter for the organization, which has built an impressive legacy in the Xfinity Series with 88 wins and four championships. Under the leadership of Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt-Miller, JRM has been a powerhouse of talent, fostering drivers like Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Tyler Reddick.

For JRM, entering the Cup Series is a dream come true. “This is something we’ve envisioned for a long time,” said Earnhardt Jr. “Now, we’re ready to make it happen on the sport’s biggest stage.”
