Pato O’Ward wins first IndyCar hybrid race, Mid-Ohio Results

The hybrid era of IndyCar began on Sunday. With the new power unit cars have an additional 60 horsepower under normal conditions and 120 under push to pass at a cost of over 100 pounds added to the car.

Scott Dixon was unable to take the green flag as his car stalled on the pace laps. After the first two laps were counted under caution for Dixon, the race featured a double file restart on lap 3 as Dixon’s chances at a good finish evaporated.

Polesitter Palou immediately began putting distance between himself and Pato O’Ward.

After a dozen laps the first pitstops began to take place.

Following their third pit stop O’Ward would not only catch up to Palou but also make a pass for the lead. O’Ward would find himself trapped behind Kyffin Simpson and Agustin Canapino while trying to hold off Palou.

The orange and black No. 5 would cross the line first scoring his second win of the season.
