Patriots waive Ty Montgomery following special teams mistake

The New England Patriots reminded veteran running back Ty Montgomery of the harshness of the NFL waiving him on Friday, a day after the team defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-18.

Montgomery was responsible for a blocked punt in the fourth quarter that led to the Steelers scoring a touchdown and getting back into the game.

The team announced the signing of Christian Elliss in a corresponding move.

Montgomery, 30, broke into the NFL in 2015 as a pass catcher for Green Bay before finding time in the backfield. He has appeared in 90 games in his NFL career, including 13 this season.
