Ryan Blaney claimed a win in Sunday’s Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway claiming a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series championship race at Phoenix Raceway.
Entering the day six drivers were competing for two spots in the championship race with Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson already earning entry thanks to previous wins at Homestead-Miami and Las Vegas in the Round of 8.
Martin Truex Jr. sat on the pole to begin the day but it was his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin who claimed the first stage of the race. Early in the race William Byron would deal with an ill performing car while Tyler Reddick suffered from contact from Erik Jones. Blaney would emerge in the second stage to win it.
Late in the third stage Blaney would get around Aric Almirola to claim the lead of the race where he would finish.
Blaney and Byron join Larson and Bell in the championship race at Phoenix Raceway.
Failing to advance were Tyler Reddick, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Chris Buescher.
