Ryan Blaney disqualified from NASCAR playoff race

UPDATE: NASCAR has rescinded the penalty after an issue was discovered with the template used at Las Vegas.

Ryan Blaney’s sixth place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been taken away following post race inspection.

NASCAR stated that the left front shock on Blaney’s car did not meet the overall specified length. NASCAR cited Section 14.11.3.5, which lists the minimum extended damper lengths for each shock.

Blaney’s penalty gives him a last place finish at Las Vegas which earns just one point. He also lost the stage points which he had earned in the race which leaves him 56 points out of the final playoff spot.

With the disqualification Blaney now finds himself in a must win position entering the final two races of the Round of 8 which take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Martinsville Speedway.
