Smith-Shawver strong in first start for Braves

AJ Smith-Shawver’s first outing as a starting pitcher went as well as anyone could have hoped.

The 20-year-old Smith-Shawver allowed just two unearned runs on three hits  in 5 1/3 innings of work against the Nationals.

While Smith-Shawver did not get a decision but has earned himself a second start which should come against the Tigers in Detroit on Wednesday.

The Braves would defeat the Nationals on Friday to win their sixth straight.
