Guardians release Zach Plesac

The Guardians demoted Zach Plesac to Triple-A Columbus at the beginning of May. After five starts in the minors the team has seen enough and released the right hander.

Plesac had struggled this season at the big league level to the tune of a 7.59 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and a ERA+ of 55. After a couple of solid outings for Plesac at the start of his demotion things fell apart over his last three starts with the culmination being the eight runs he allowed though four innings of work on May 31 against Iowa.

A 12th round pick in 2016, Plesac made his major league debut during the 2019 season. The Guardians avoided salary arbitration by giving Plesac a $2.95 million salary this season.
